The Arc’s Parent Learning Series takes place each spring and fall and covers the financial and legal tools families can utilize to build a better life outcome for their children. Many of the public benefits that individuals with disabilities receive, do not cover the full scope of need, let alone support that person’s individualized goals and aspirations. The specialized financial, civil, and legal tools available to families become much more important to understand and these tools are put in place, can transform anxiety into positive action. These sessions are brought to you in part through the generosity of the United Way of the Quad Cities.

All sessions are FREE for in-person instruction or FREE via ZOOM. Registration is required.

“Who’s in Charge if Something Happens to You?”
Thursday, October 5th, 2023 6:00 PM
What will happen to your child when their natural support falls away? For many, this is a
parent’s biggest fear, but taking proactive steps and putting the right structures in place
can bring peace of mind. This session will cover if or when guardianship or conservatorship
is necessary. How do parents choose who will take over as guardian or conservator of one’s
child? This workshop will walk through the guardianship and conservatorship process from
when one should be started to the court proceedings involved to how someone will take
over, one of the most important things parents can do to protect their child’s future.
Presented by Mary Anne Ehlert – Protected Tomorrow

“Their Rights vs. Your Wishes: Guardianship”

mechanism for acting out your wishes – they are to protect the rights of the ‘protected
person’ regarding their care and financial affairs. This session will focus on everything you
need to know regarding your guardianship and how to attain a positive future for your child.
Presented by Tim Gulbranson – Lane & Waterman
All sessions are FREE in person at The Arc located at 4016 9th
