Rock Island, IL –- In honor of the legacy of Martin Luther King, members of the Disability Awareness Coalition are teaming up to hold a Quad City community wide food drive to benefit local food pantries.

People with disabilities should be full included and fully participate in every aspect of their community, including service. The Arc of the Quad Cities Area in partnership with the QC Disability Awareness Coalition is kicking off a food drive in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. who said. “The time is always right, to do what is right.” The Coalition knows that people with disabilities have many talents and skills to offer their community. Community service is something that every American can participate in regardless of disability.

MLK called on all Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. In order to transform his teaching into community action members of the QC Disability Awareness Coalition are tackling food insecurity by spearheading a Food Drive in honor of MLK. The MLK Food Drive engages volunteers with and without disabilities to work hand-in-hand to serve people in need. Volunteers will be picking up non-perishable donated items and delivering them to local food pantries to address food in-security in the Quad Cities.
