Rock Island, IL The Arc of the Quad Cities Area announces its participation in National Disability Employment Awareness Month, an annual awareness campaign that takes place each October. The purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. This year’s theme is “Americas Workforce: Empowering All.”

The Arc of the Quad Cities Area’s Community Employment Services program opens the door of opportunity for individuals with disabilities by discovering their strengths and career goals and linking them to a job that will help them gain greater financial independence. The Arc receives support from the Rauch Family Foundation and the United Way of the Quad Cities to help adults transitioning out of k-12 schools into the workforce. Community Employment Services provides the foundational supports that allows for success in the workforce.

The American Job Center provides an integrated array of high-quality services so that workers, job seekers, and businesses can conveniently find the help they need under one roof.

The Arc has increasingly been focusing services towards competitive integrated employment and was selected by the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts Boston to study the experience of providers participating in a community of practice called the Provider Transformation Network.  By participating in the study and using the Agency Change Toolkit, The Arc hopes to improve employment outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Arc participates in National Disability Awareness Month every October to raise awareness that different abilities and perspectives can be a positive factor in any workforce’s success. The Arc is committed to the success of people with disabilities in the workforce. We know that a workforce that empowers all is good for everyone.
